Minutes from the Parents Committee Meeting held on 4/14/03

 

In attendance: John N, Hana A, Keith D, Frances R, Laura R, Emma S, and Lisa W

 

Items of discussion:

 

Frances R discussed the format of the upcoming swimming merit badge class. She mentioned he fact that the class was filling up and that the boys will be split into two groups during the class to accommodate the size of he pool. Frances said that the requirements for up to First Class would be covered in the swim class. Due to the cold weather this last month, the pool will not be warm by the day of the hoped-for first session (May 8).   We will therefore postpone our starting date until the following week, May 15, and add the first Thursday afternoon in June-- June 5-- to our schedule.   We are still planning to meet at the same time (4:00 to 6:00pm) and place (Aaron's grandma's house) as announced earlier.

 

There is an issue of The Bugle under construction but the publication date was still to be determined.

 

The floor was opened to attract general comments and suggestions for helping the troop to run more smoothly. The following items were discussed:

 

Learning names

It was suggested that we make an effort to increase scout and parent name recognition level in he troop. The idea that everyone should wear a name tag or that we start meetings by having everyone in the room introduce themselves at the beginning of the meetings was put forward. This will help parents learn the names of the boys and vice versa and help the new scouts fit in to the troop. This item will be addressed at the PLC on 5/5.

 

BOR procedure

A desire for more information about the Board of Review procedure was expressed. The procedure was detailed:

 

The boys should get their rank advancement requirements signed-off by their patrol leader or by an appropriate adult leader

 

Have a scoutmaster meeting with their ASM or the scoutmaster (ASM for first class and under or scoutmaster for star or life)

 

Then have Pam F check their book against troop records

 

Call the committee chairman to schedule a Board of Review

 

This procedure will be reviewed with the scouts at the next troop meeting.

 

There was a request that the master list of committee jobs be reviewed at the next parents meeting. This will be done at the 5/12 committee meeting.
