11/4/02 Troop 206 Parents Committee Meeting

1. Thanks for 2 and a half years of dedicated service to outgoing Scoutmaster Doug J. He stepped up to serve an unexpected vacancy and must now step down as he pursues job opportunities outside the area.
2. A motion is made by Pam F and seconded by Don McV to approve the nomination of Roger H. to be the new Scoutmaster. He is introduced to the committee by chairman John N.
3. Bill A. circulated driver information and family information sheets to be reviewed, corrected, and returned to Pam F.
4. Pam F. gave results of the popcorn sale. A total of $2393.00 of product was sold, of which the Troop will receive 40%. THANKS to Scouts Hoi, Peter H, Cory, Brian, Tom, Duane, David, Stephen, Aaron, Javier, Scott, and to top seller Austin. Nice work guys.
5.New Medical forms coordinator Ria R. will get paperwork turned over to her by Bill A.
6. Outings Budget. Per last months request, outdoor events coordinators have been asked to formulate a budget for upcoming outings. These will be one tool used for the budget committee which will meet on 11/18/02. Emma S, John N, Eric VdP, Don McV, Bill A, Roger H, and Paul R will be on that committee.
7. Treasurer Eric VdP, reports about 2/3 of the dues from the Fall Billing are in.
8. Bill A, will present a wet weather backpacking info review on the 11/18 Troop meeting. How to dress and pack for comfort and safety in Northern California winter weather, in preparation for the Big Basin to The Sea backpack trip. Mr. A also passed out a flyer for the trip explaining the 12 mile hike with a option to hike an additional three miles (for a total of 15) to work towards the Backpacking Merit Badge.
9.Pancake breakfast committee met 10/21. Members Keith D, (Chair) Denise T, Ray S, and Bill A, discussed ticket design and a planned distribution of tickets to Scouts by mid December. Doug J, offered to design tickets. Will also need flyer. Denise T, inquired about posting flyers in downtown Menlo Park. Also possibility of tickets available for sale at stores. It was observed that a Scout in Class A uniform was a more likely sale than having tickets in stores. Minimum of ten tickets per Scout expected as this is Troop’s main fundraiser. Scheduled date is 2/15/03 at Trinity. Everyone is Troop is expected to participate. Approximately 200 have been served in most recent year.
Pam F. offered to help with cooking. Eggs will be offered this year, though not advertised. Door prize is being considered.
10. Scouting For Food. Flyer drop off is Saturday 11/9. Patrols will split the Troop’s territory of the Flood Park area of Menlo Park. Time for drop off is at Patrol Leader discretion. Full Class A uniform for both flyer distribution and food pick up on 11/16.
11. Ski Weekend. Alan Z. reports 26 signed up for February weekend at Sugar Bowl. May or may not be additional spots available. Cancellations may be made, but refunds are done only to the extent that the spot can be refilled. If not, deposit is forfeited.
Scouts should have money for dinner on trip up Friday 1/31/03 and return trip dinner on 2/2/03, as well as lunch (unless you pre pay for bag lunches from lodge.) Balance for lodge fee ($70)
Plus any lift tickets and/or lessons you may wish to pre-purchase through Mr.Z. are due to him by 1/15/03. Shuttle bus to ski area will be pre-arranged for Saturday skiing.
12.Board of Review for 11/18/02 meeting is requested for two Scouts. Pam F will lead with Keith D and Chi M assisting at Boards for Duane and Bernard. Possibility of two other Scouts ready at that time.
13. Calendar Change. White water rafting weekend now set for last weekend in April ‘03. This is a Scouts (and families) only weekend with a outfitter on Cache Creek. Outfitter is different company than one used last year.
