That had to be one of the most interesting Camporees I've been to (first
one- 1994), and ASM in Charge Dave Reneau ordered up some spectacular
weather. We came away with a wonderful display of ribbons for event prizes.
The events put on by different troops were designed to be amazing combinations
of opportunities to demonstrate skills, leadership, and teamwork. Patrol
Leaders- please keep those ribbons for the Troop Flag! Mr . Phil McHale has
written notes on the prizes given out so you can write these on the ribbons.
The Hamster Patrol had 4 Event First Place awards, one Second, and one
Third. AND- overall First Place Patrol (out of over 20 at the Camporee). The
combined Patrol Rubber (Duckies) Assassins had 2 First Place event awards and
2 Second Place awards, and came in Second Place out of all the Patrols. The
New Scout Patrol, now named the Peanut Patrol, had an excellent showing with a
Second Place event award and a Third Place award, both in 2 difficult ones-
the Log Pull and the Obstacle Course.
Here I want to make some public notes of
Good Scout
Spirit:
Excellent Scout Spirit was observed of Patrol Leader Aaron J. and APL Max
M. of the Peanuts, PL Jack D. of the Hamsters, and Acting PL Grant S. of the
Rubber Assassins (a combined Patrol), and Troop Guide Scott McVey.
The Hamsters- Jack, Vincent D., Alex J., and Scott M.- showed wonderful
teamwork, clearly, resulting in their overall Camporee ranking.
ASMs attending the event, Dave Reneau, Phil McHale, Gary Shaffer, and Emma
Shelton (me) spent most of our time on Saturday manning the "Fire Starting
Without Matches or liquid fuel" event. Many many thanks to my fellow ASMs for
making that educational and fun. We have lots of photos of Camporee that will
be on the Website soon.
